Just a thought but if you're serious about maintaining a list that isn't going to "fizzle out", it might be worth going the spreadsheet route right from the start to avoid a lot of hassle that other lists have experienced when they all outgrew the forum software. Or they can be color coded, eg, Green = no tweaking necessary, Yellow = works but needs tweaking, Red = doesn't work or has major unfixed playability issues. If new columns are needed they can be added anytime, whereas people often have a tendency to not update old posts if more information is required in future. A spreadsheet could contain columns such as Game Name, W10 version tested (eg, 1909), Issue ("won't start", "no music"), Fix ("Set compatibility to XP3", "Install DirectPlay"), Link to PCGamingWiki page, etc. Also allows people to download an offline / backup copy (in XLSX / ODS / PDF format).Īs an example in this thread you've simply got the names of games and compatibility information in vary states of posting. Allows for multiple lists, eg, separate spreadsheet tabs for "Working and Not Working" and 4. Allowing a lot more content / lines than GOG forums (eg, having compatibility notes on the same row as the game name), 3. Allowing more than one trusted member to contribute rather than dump the whole workload on one person, 2. such as "2nd class citizens" thread, RWarehall's sales tracker, etc, to see how they often started off as forum-based "direct content", but due to forum issues the large complex lists grew to the point where they switched to using Google Sheets. Fr33kSh0w2012: Post what works or not here! When making posts with the intent of it becoming a serious constantly updated "sticky thread", it's generally good form to maintain the list in first or second post, but also reserve 4-5 "placeholder" posts for yourself immediately below them in case you run into things like maximum post size in future that forces you to split the list between posts (eg, it starts off A-Z in one post now but could grow to need A-E, F-J, K-O, P-T, U-Z between 5 posts).Īlternatively to keep things easier to manage, take a look at all the other lists here on GOG.
